2:00-3:30 p.m.	Welcome and Opening Plenary Nurses Change the World: The Enduring Power of Relationship to Create Health and Justice In this inspiring and galvanizing presentation, journalist Sarah DiGregorio will illuminate the many ways that nursing has been key to the flourishing of human societies, from antiquity to the present. It will include stories of nurses who have used their unique insight and expertise to tackle some of the biggest problems of their time. And it will elucidate how nurses, because they work in relationship with people, are often perfectly situated to notice causes of suffering in individuals and communities, and then to act to alleviate that suffering.

Publication of critical and relevant scholarship is a requisite for the advancement of nursing science. However, the process can be perceived as arduous and demanding. Join peers and the Editor of the Journal of Professional Nursing for the unique opportunity to ask your questions and gain insight into the process of manuscript development, submission, and successful acceptance for publication. You may walk away with the inspiration to review manuscripts or join an editorial board.

4:15-5:30 p.m.	CCNE Forum on the Revised 2024 Accreditation Standards Join CCNE Board and former Standards Committee leaders for an important dialogue about the 2024 revisions to CCNE’s Standards for Accreditation of Baccalaureate and Graduate Nursing Programs (Standards), which went into effect on January 1, 2025. Learn about the changes and take advantage of this opportunity to ask questions about the CCNE Standards. What are the substantive differences between the 2018 and 2024 Standards? How might programs address CCNE’s expectations in an upcoming self-study document, continuous improvement progress report, or other report?

9:00-10:00 a.m.	Plenary Taking Advocacy to the Next Level: Engaging Nurses in Politics The political determinants of health (PDOH) are critical to achieving health equity, but have received limited attention in academic nursing. Nurses are increasingly adept at advocacy, yet remain sorely underrepresented in elected offices, despite having a skill set well suited to run and serve constituents. In this presentation, Sofia Aragon and Dr. Lisa Summers will explore the power of civic engagement, nursing representation, and PDOH through the lived experience of a nurse who has served in elected office. Nurse educators will leave with new ideas for how to embed political advocacy and public service into their nursing programs and clinical practices.

10:30-11:30 a.m.	Closing Plenary Practicing Mindfulness and Self-Compassion: Approaches to Promoting Joy, Well-Being, and Creativity Nurses often feel obligated to be superhuman. As healthcare professionals and educators, we are expected to be steadfast caregivers while often neglecting our own needs and the long-term cost of high stress and burnout. Dr. Cheryl Woods Giscombe will review the latest research on stress, coping, caregiver strain, and clinician/educator well-being and then move to evidence-based practices to address these issues with strategies grounded in mindfulness, contemplative practices, and self-compassion.
